Ontario Beer Diary

A beer blog focused on Ontario’s craft beer industry.

2019 Year in Review

Beer has been a passion of mine for many years. In fact, beginning in high school (many, many years ago), I collected the bottle of every new beer I tried. Unlike today’s Untappd, my beers were displayed on the shelves lining my bedroom walls. My shelves were stacked primarily with multiple variations of Molson and Labatt products, but my collection also included more “obscure” beer bottles: Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale, Tusker Lager, and Tsingtao among others. In the following years, my passion for beer grew and I began to explore the small craft breweries popping up all over Canada, the United States, and UK.

It was 2019, however, that marked the most significant beer milestones in my life. I began working at Parsons Brewing Company (Picton, ON), started brewing my own beer, and in my spare time constantly read and researched beer. Books I read included: John J. Palmer’s How to Brew; Randy Mosher’s Tasting Beer; and Garrett Oliver’s The Brewmaster’s Table. Now that I had whetted my appetite, I couldn’t stop.

So, while I may be late to the party, I wanted to share some of my favourite beers of 2019. The beers below (in no particular order) include classic styles, beers that I revisited during the year, and beers from new and exciting Canadian breweries.

Cheers!
